The three main types of nurse call systems are wired, wireless and IP-based. Each can be combined with voice communication, mobile alerts and integration, depending on what your facility needs.
A wired system uses fixed cabling and suits new builds where cabling can be planned in advance. A wireless system uses fewer cables, installs faster and is easier to expand, which suits existing buildings. Many facilities choose based on the building and how quickly they need to go live.
The cost depends on several factors:
- the number of beds and rooms
- the system type (wired, wireless or IP-based)
- the features you need, such as intercom, mobile alerts and integration
- whether the building is new or existing
- the installation scope and the support contract

A typical nurse call system diagram shows the patient call button connected to a room unit and a corridor light. These connect to a nurse station display and, in some systems, to staff mobile devices. See the diagram near the top of this page.
Often, yes. Integration depends on the platform and your current infrastructure. We review what you have in place before recommending an approach.
